Placement of a Sutureless Secondary Intraocular Lens

Kishan G. Patel, MD, shares a surgical video showing placement of a sutureless secondary intraocular lens in a patient with history of previous vitrectomy and aphakia. He demonstrates sutureless intrascleral fixation of a 3-piece IOL (CT Lucia 602, Carl Zeiss Meditec) using bent 27-gauge needles. One haptic is externalized at a time, and low-temperature cautery is used to create haptic flanges. He also shows the use of the corneal light reflex to help with marking the scleral tunnels to allow proper centration of the intraocular lens.
