Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Resident, Dr. Kent Simmonds, won the International Stroke Conference '23 Stroke Rehabilitation Award for his research on racial disparities in the treatment of acute stroke patients. The research examined 20 years of data and found that Black and Hispanic adults in the U.S. were less likely to be treated for certain complications such as depression and muscle stiffness after a stroke compared to their white peers.
