Our distinguished faculty help to prepare our graduates for independent practice and fellowship, whether in academic or private settings. Our commitment to excellence in education and training contributes to why UT Southwestern is "the future of medicine, today."
UT Southwestern has everything you need to really excel in the field of orthopedic surgery. You're going to get unparalleled training here. If you want to train an orthopedic surgery and you want to come out the best president you can be. This is the place you want to come. I was here rotating as a student and what really sold me was the people, everyone really worked as a team and I knew that was something I wanted to be a part of the sim center here has no equal having access to a simulation center allows residents to practice those tactile and positional skills that are not inherent in everyone, knee scopes and shoulder scopes just to get a little bit more hands on experience without having the extra pressure of being in the operating room. The orthopedic training program is a rigorous program that's based on a five year curriculum. Our residents get to spend time at Parkland Memorial Hospital, the University Hospital, Children's Medical Center, texas, Scottish Rite Hospital and the veterans Hospital here in Dallas. You get a good good sampling of the wide breadth of orthopedic surgery in different patient populations in different practice settings. You see the rarest and the sickest patients and probably all of Dallas and or texas. You come in as an intern and you are immediately in the operating room with the attending surgeon and they're walking you through cases during their last year. They get the opportunity to train in new Zealand as a visiting student and resident essentially, you are in a totally different part of the world, totally different healthcare system, but you're still doing orthopedic cases when we started the program, you're assigned a mentor. So it's nice that right off the bat you have a faculty point of contact, someone who's checking in on you and making sure that everything is okay to be mentored on how to approach scholarly activity, their clinical activities and even the educational activities. I believe that two faculty members there that took me under their wing really changed my life. Every single one of them is somebody that I feel like I can go up and just talk to if I have a question every staff member we have is invested in our education is approachable and easy to work with and it's those mentoring relationships that help our residents find not only fellowship placement, but practice placement after graduation. I feel like when I get into practice that I will be capable of handling any of those basic traumas that we see that really are the fundamentals of orthopedic practice. We've also implemented a social and wellness budget so that our residents can plan activities outside of their training. Even those residents were constantly together in the hospital, we still end up hanging out with each other at least two or three times a week outside of work. There's something about the atmosphere, the vibe, the familial nature of the program which really drew me here, We find different activities to do, will try to set up big group events where we go get pizza or do acts throwing W. W. Wrestling events. We'd like to go to Medieval Times. Our residency program is designed to provide our residents a robust training experience that prepares them to Florence in any capacity as an orthopedic surgeon after they complete their five years of training. It is a diverse residency program that matches the diversity of the city after being here for almost 4.5 years now that the training, the preparation, the autonomy that I've been having is really going to pay dividends. Ut Southwestern is a place where you can be your authentic self and really thrive if you put yourself out there and give it your all and try your best to succeed. Because I think you two Southwestern does a really good job of supporting your dreams.
