Each year, our UTSW residents gain outstanding and rigorous clinical experience in the Department of Ophthalmology as a result of high surgery volume and clinical pathology.
UTSW strives to provide the best ophthalmic education possible. Didactic lectures presented by our full-time and clinical faculty cover all the basic science and clinical topics, as well as lectures that help fulfill ACGME competencies in medical knowledge, professionalism, system-based practice, practice-based learning and improvement, and interpersonal and communication skills.
to sum up, we feel we offer an unmatched ophthalmology resident training experience. Our residents are well prepared for the future. Our scholarship match success rate is outstanding. Well over two thirds of graduates go on to fellowship training, However, we have many graduates enter practice immediately after training, either joining an established group, restoring their own solo practice de novo, or even entering academia as a comprehensive ophthalmologist. Our first time pass rate report certification is far above the national average. These slides show where rents have gone for the fellowship training over the past few years, you can see the details of what and where our resident classes have done recently and where they've gone on to on our website. Note that our residents are able to match very prestigious fellowships that they have elected a broad spectrum of subspecialties in which to train here is what are last year's class have elected to study and go into number two factor that usually influences an applicant choice of program is the interview experience. We enjoy showing off not only our texas, hospitality but also our facilities and people quite a lot to be proud of. Plus I enjoy meeting those who will be my future colleagues and the future leaders of my chosen profession. The most important factor influencing one's choice of residency program is the satisfaction of the current residents. We hope you'll be able to interact sufficiently essentially esprit de corps of our residency classes. I wish I could take credit for the way the classes coalesce. Each year we bring together bright motivated people who are willing to take advantage of all we have to offer in the program. The bonding between like minds just seems to happen. These are some of the comments we get from our residents. Our annual program evaluation surveys. The program does provide appropriate graduated autonomy while providing excellent surgical breadth and volume. The real strength of the program is the people, residents, fellows, faculty and staff. We are committed now into education, but also to providing the highest quality of care to all, including vulnerable populations. I disagree with the last comment here, though, we're always looking to improve our program to stay on the cutting edge. We believe our rescue program offers some of the best experiences and opportunities to develop to one's fullest potential. We hope to see you in Dallas texas.
