Anupama Gangavati, MD
Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine
Anupama Gangavati, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in geriatrics, particularly the care of vulnerable elders; perioperative optimization of senior health; and health care disparities in older adults.
Dr. Gangavati earned her medical degree at the Adichuchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences in India. She completed a residency in internal medicine at NEOUCOM-affiliated hospitals in Canton, Ohio, where she was later Chief Resident. She also received advanced training in geriatric medicine through a fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).
Following her fellowship, Dr. Gangavati stayed on at BIDMC, Harvard Medical School’s teaching hospital, as an instructor of medicine and staff geriatrician for five years. She received a Geriatric Academic Career Award, which focused on developing and assessing a multi- and interdisciplinary anticoagulation management curriculum for the elderly.
She subsequently practiced geriatric medicine in Bangalore, India, and was a senior consultant in geriatric medicine for Apollo Hospitals, an Indian multinational hospital chain, for five years before coming to Dallas.
Certified by the Board of Internal Medicine and the Board of Geriatric Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019.
Dr. Gangavati is a Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society and a member of several other professional organizations, including the American Academy of Home Care Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the Indian Geriatrics Society. She was the co-founder of Medcync, a patient education startup in Bangalore.
At UT Southwestern, she serves on the IRB Committee and is a member of Supporting Women in Achieving Greatness (SWAG).
