UT Southwestern’s Newly Created Division of Vascular Medicine Ensures a Comprehensive Approach to Cardiovascular Care

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are pleased to announce the creation of the Division of Vascular Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. This marks a significant milestone, as UT Southwestern is the first institution in the country to establish a division in this specialty. Together with the Division of Vascular Surgery, this new division will enhance our ability to deliver world-class, multidisciplinary care for patients with complex vascular conditions.

Our partnership within the Cardiovascular Service Line ensures a truly integrated and collaborative approach to patient care. Vascular medicine and vascular surgery will provide, in tandem and along with other cardiovascular specialties as needed, comprehensive, personalized treatment plans that address the full spectrum of vascular disease.

Although vascular medicine and vascular surgery serve distinct roles, they function as a cohesive team to guide patients through their care journey. Vascular medicine focuses on nonsurgical management, offering medical therapies, lifestyle modifications, and advanced diagnostics for conditions such as peripheral artery disease (PAD), venous thromboembolism, and aneurysms. Vascular surgery provides procedural capability, performing interventions such as angiography, vascular stent and aortic graft placement, bypass surgery, and other endovascular procedures, as well as diagnostic expertise.

Together, they ensure seamless care, with either vascular medicine or surgery serving as the entry point to providing timely diagnostic and management interventions when needed.

By establishing this division, we are reinforcing UT Southwestern’s commitment to being a leader in research, education, and clinical care in vascular disease. Our unified approach will advance medical therapies, improve patient outcomes, and contribute to shaping the national conversation on vascular disease management.

We look forward to the positive impact this new division will have on patient care and our academic mission, while continuing to uphold our tradition of excellence within the Cardiovascular Service Line.

Warm regards,
