South Asians and cardiometabolic health: A framework for comprehensive care for the individual, community, and population - An American society for preventive cardiology clinical practice statement

Despite being one of North America’s fastest-growing demographics, South Asians carry a disproportionately high burden of heart disease, diabetes, and other cardiometabolic conditions that standard screening tools often miss. To eliminate this deadly blind spot, an international team of experts – including UT Southwestern cardiologists Anand Rohatgi, M.D., and Parag Joshi, M.D. – has published a landmark clinical practice roadmap to address this critical gap. This multidisciplinary article draws on insights spanning cardiology, nutrition, mental health, obstetrics, and public health to provide lifesaving guidance for clinicians, community organizations, and policymakers working to stop South Asian cardiovascular disease before it starts.
